Either random or non-ran is fine. I personally prefer non-ran because I can do the chord scales better that way. But some of the randoms are just godly. For a normal clear you can drop one or two of the short holds near the end but you can't ignore them.

HC strategy: Endure M34-M47 when the scales start coming in, and beware of the roll before the first CNs. After the lifegain CNs, endure the rest, and HOLD those CNs or you WILL die. Practice on Almagest [h] w/ Ran beforehand works wonders.
